Women to Watch: Lea Marquez Peterson, Candidate for Arizona’s 2nd District
By the Medium Staff
Lea Marquez Peterson is running to represent the Second District of Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives. Marquez Peterson has lived in the Second District for over forty years and has a long history of community service in Tucson and greater Arizona.
During her tenure as President and CEO of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Lea worked to create new jobs, attract businesses to the Tucson area, and grew the chamber from 300 to over 1800 businesses. She understands that job creation depends on a well-trained workforce. By equipping community members with the right skills, it can change the quality of life for families throughout the community. Lea is a vocal supporter of the 2017 Tax Reform because of its positive impact on small businesses and families in the community.
Another critical area for Southern Arizona is the southern border. Lea believes this is a multi-faceted issue and must be addressed comprehensively. For example, the human trafficking and drug smuggling passing through the Arizona desert is a humanitarian crisis and a security issue, which deserves attention.
